Essential Info
- The trail includes stone staircases and uneven terrain. Comfortable, well-broken-in hiking boots with good ankle support are essential for this trek.
- To catch the iconic Himalayan sunrise, you’ll need to start hiking around 4:30 AM. Dress warmly and carry a headlamp or flashlight, as the trail is dark before dawn.
- Minor cuts, colds or headaches can arise during the trek. Include plasters, antiseptics, painkillers, motion sickness tablets and any necessary personal medications.
- The panoramic views from Poonhill are some of the best in Nepal. Charge your devices in advance and carry a power bank since electricity in teahouses may be limited.
- Although well-marked, the trail can still get confusing in dense forests or crowded seasons. Stick with your Shalom Treks guide for direction and safety.
- Even at lower elevations, rain and chilly mornings are common. Carry a rain jacket, layered clothing and a waterproof cover for your backpack.
- The route passes through Gurung and Magar villages. Respect local customs, greet locals with "Namaste," and ask before taking photos of people or homes.
- The best time for clear sunrise views is during spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November). Avoid monsoon season due to slippery trails and poor visibility.
