Famous among both nature-loving trekkers and pilgrims, the Gosaikunda trek allows you to experience mesmerizing mountain views and will take you to the land of 108 lakes. Lying in the majestic Langtang region at an altitude of 4300 meters, Gosaikunda Lake is a well-known pilgrimage site that has great importance for various religious groups who flock to the place from all over the world. The place lights up during the festival of Janai Purnima (the full moon of August) as several Hindus worshipping Lord Shiva take a pilgrimage to dip in this sacred lake as it is believed that the holy water of the lake washes away all sins.

The trek allows you to walk through Rhododendron and oak forests enjoying the picturesque panorama of the snow-capped mountains like Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and Hiuchuli as the tree line clears. Nestled in between the majestic mountain ranges, the lake is a sight to behold. The trek offers basic teahouse accommodations with delectable local cuisine and warm Nepalese hospitality.

Gosaikunda is a popular trek both for the trekkers and pilgrims. It offers breathtaking views of many of the snowcapped mountains along with the holy lakes. Enjoy the rhododendron and lush Pine forests along with exotic wildlife of the Langtang National Park.

Itinerary

After early morning breakfast, we drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche Bazar. We get to enjoy around 6 hours of scenic beauty as we drive through the valley. The green hills, local villages, terraced farms, the rivers flowing along the winding roads, and the glimpses of the snow-capped mountains are sure to keep you fascinated as we reach Dhunche. It is a small settlement area with friendly locals. We will check into our lodge, explore the area, mingle with the locals, and enjoy the local cuisine. We will rest here for tonight and prepare for our trek the next day.

Today we start our hiking after having a delicious breakfast in Dhunche. We ascend towards Chandanbari strolling through beautiful forests that consists of oak, hemlock, and fir trees. We will trek through Deurali and Dhimsa passing through streamlets and peaceful pine forests. As the trail goes uphill, we will have to trek steep sections to reach Chandanbari, a village located at the lap of a pine forest. We will be resting here overnight. The place is famous for its Yak cheese factory and local monastery. You will get to explore the area, visit Sing Gompa and taste the delicious yak cheese along with hot local meals.

Following a hardy breakfast in Chandanbari, we trek towards Gosaikunda. Today we will be trekking through rough and difficult terrain through narrow trails. As the forests and vegetation clear, we will be welcomed by a pristine view of the glorious mountain ranges. The panoramic view of Langtang Lirung(7234m), Langtang Ri(7205m), Manaslu(8163m), and Ganesh Himal(7422m) will keep you mesmerized and encourage you to keep moving ahead.

We will trek through Cholangpaty, Lauribinayak, and various temples and monasteries that carry both Hindu and Buddhist values. Our trekking endeavor will be further rewarded by the magnificent views of the glorious lakes – Saraswati Kunda, Bhairav Kunda, and the Holy Lake Gosaikunda. We will visit some other lakes around the area, enjoy the natural beauty, and ponder in their magnificence. We will be spending the night in a local tea house.

Leaving behind the lap of the majestic mountains and today we descend to Dhunche passing Lauribinayak and Sing Gompa. We retrace our steps through the forests and enjoy the never-ending views of the mighty mountains. We might even be able to sight protected birds such as Wood Snipe, Snow Partridge, Tibetan Snow Cock, etc throughout the trek. The trek will be fairly easier due to the downhill descend. After a long stretch of the trek, we will rest our feet at Dhunche. We will enjoy the local hospitality once again and share our stories and reflect on our trekking experiences over a hot tasty dinner.

After a good night’s rest, we will have a delicious breakfast at the hotel and ready ourselves to return to Kathmandu. We will travel via a scenic route enjoying the beauty of the Trishuli River, terraced fields, and picturesque towns.
