Essential Info
- Even though the trek is not extremely high, the quick altitude gain can affect some trekkers. Spend a night in Kagbeni or nearby villages before ascending to Muktinath.
- Jomsom and Muktinath are known for strong afternoon winds and cold mornings. Bring windproof clothing, warm layers and sun protection for midday exposure.
- While tea houses offer bottled water, it's more eco-friendly and cost-effective to treat your own water using purification tablets or UV filters.
- Muktinath is sacred to both religions. Remove shoes before entering temple areas, do not touch sacred statues or items, and remain quiet during rituals.
- Lodges in this region are clean but basic. Electricity, hot showers and Wi-Fi may be limited. Shalom Treks ensures your accommodation is booked and reliable.
- Most trekkers fly in or out of Jomsom. Flights are scenic but often delayed due to weather. Alternatively, prepare for a bumpy but adventurous jeep ride to Pokhara.
- There are no ATMs along the trail. Carry enough Nepali rupees for food, entrance fees, and small offerings at temples or monasteries.
- Autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May) are the best times for this trek. Winter can be cold and summer rains can affect travel logistics.
